The Colonial Gaze

This work aims at building ‘non-Westerners’ narratives from a post-colonial era by retelling the events in history. It involves museum scene photographs of renowned historical artworks and reproductions of gelatin silver prints from a photo book documenting the 1931 Paris Colonial Exposition. The perspective from the back of Venus de Milo also challenges the traditional roles of viewers and the object in a reverse manner.
